YO! contacted Tag4 and asked us to design and build a new office IT network for them at their offices in London.
After our initial consultation it became obvious that their workforce was extremely mobile and would therefore require an office system that offered users the flexibility of working either in the office, at one of several remote locations or out on the road whilst travelling.
Tag4 put together a simple yet elegant solution based around a mutisite VPN, connecting several remote and home offices into a single virtual network. At each location we installed both wired and wireless networks, allowing users to easily move between locations with no need for any complex reconfigurations or changes to their hardware or software setup.
All mobile clients were configured with additional VPN client software, allowing mobile users to securely connect to the YO! network from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
We provided YO! with a range of ultralight laptops that balanced reliability and durability with extreme portability, giving them a solution that was not only highly mobile but also provided a design slant that 'fit' within the paradigm of the Yo! brand.
We also provided a range of identical docking stations at each location, each of these being equiped with state of the art LCD screens and bluetooth wireless keyboards and mice. A travelling user would simply slot their laptop into one of these stations and have their tiny ultraportable instantly converted into a complete desktop workstation.
To complete their 'always on' communications network we installed a 'Spamurai' email firewall to protect their inboxes and provide a bulletproof backbone for their mission critical email needs. In combination with a Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server backend and custom folder replication this provided them with a messaging infrastructure that was not only secure but also allowed users to work in a highly collaborative way whilst actually residing at multiple remote locations.
To give YO! access to their collaborative environment in places where even ultralight laptops were too bulky, we configured their network with 'push' email technology to replicate calendars, address books and inboxes to multiple wireless devices, meaning that instant access to their corporate information was simply a button push away, no matter where they were!
